Jose signs Chinese contract
Jose Fonte has officially departed West Ham after agreeing his move to China. The Portuguese international signed a contract with Dalian Yifang this morning and the news will be officially announced by both clubs this afternoon.
The deal is said to be worth £4.3 million to West Ham with 34-year-old likely to earn up to £120,000 a week after tax. Fonte has signed a two-year contract with the Chinese Super League club.
Fonte has not played for West Ham since October because of an ankle injury and in the interim was angered by David Sullivan, the West Ham joint chairman, saying that his children had begged him not to sign the defender. He had 17 months left on his £70,000-a-week West Ham contract originally costing the Hammers £8.3m under Slaven Bilic.

Short term signing that turned out to be short term Indicative of the muddled thinking of our incompetent owners. Fair play to Fonte though. Getting a massive wage (netto!) in his mid 30’s. Just needs to be able to stand being in China to collect his dough I think the example cited of not signing someone like Harry Maguire instead sums it up. It’s why we have the piss poor squad of geriatrics that we do.

I’ve visited the football ground in Guangzhou. Think old school Fourth Division during the 1970s..... But on his wages I don’t suppose he’ll be too bothered.

We shouldn't of signed the flakey cunt in the first place...
With the money spent on him and Snodgrass we could of signed somebody like Harry McGuire...not a bad defender at all
Sullivan's false economy again

140 bags a week for 3 years, I'm sure the initial shock will subside a touch.

Putting to one side the situation with the owners coining in more money, as said below we have had a bit of a touch getting rid for a decent fee and in turn getting his obscene wages off the payroll.
It never ceases to amaze me that no matter how poor a player has been there always seems to be buyers for them. All the shit we bought over the last 3 years we seem to have off loaded all of them, and I'd be surprised if any of them are tearing it up with their new clubs.
No ill feelings towards Fonte, good solid pro. I won't wish him luck though as I very much doubt he needs it.

Has anyone seen where Dalian is in China?
Fonte will be in for a shock its a peninsula in the Yellow Sea opposite North Korea. North of where the winter Olympics are being held, a little chilly I'd imagine
Guangzhou is in the same league over 2000 km away

Fair play to Gold at least for wishing Fonte well on Twitter - it is a shame that his partner (or is it really boss?) has no class

Not in love with them at all but just won't bitch for the sake of it.
I am all for getting better owners but don't want to end up with some dodgy foreign owners who will make us even worse. If we found new owners tomorrow that will do a better job then I would quite gladly see the back of GSB asap.
As I said in my previous post if we suddenly get a couple of injuries at centre back then the board have to be held accountable for letting Fonte go but as it stands we should be ok and I would rather Rice got more opportunities than Fonte.
How do you know for certain that they are refusing to give Collins a contract extension? They are probably waiting for us to be safe before they offer anything just like they are with Moyes.
No issue with people having a pop at the board and most of it is justified but I am not going to cry over Fonte going and I doubt many others are either.

I didn't want him in the first place Swindon, but yet again as you do with all my posts bwcausw you're so fucking in love with the owners, you fail to see my point. in a season where the cunts have operated a transfer policy of one in, almost four out, they decide to sell yet another player after the transfer window has closed and during a season where we've hovered close to or inthe relegation places for most of the season. these are the same owners who refuse to give out a year extension to Collins, so what the fuck is their plan other than continually reducing the squad and wage bill? they are cunts, but only get away with because of shit like 'is fonts an asset then?'

Is Fonte an asset then?
I agree that if we get a couple of injuries at centre back then you would have to question letting him go but he is 34 on 70k a week and has been shit for most of his West Ham tenure.
Its no big loss from a talent perspective. Hopefully Reid, Collins, Ogbonna, Cresswell & Rice will be enough to see us through the season.

Good job, poorly executed and of even worse conception
We fucked off Tomkins to use the youth, then loaned the youth and incurred injuries so signed this bloke, upon a ludicrously long contract given his age
Owner recognises dropped bollock, PR's his kids' distain, and he moves after the window for a replacement but inside the financial year
And perhaps there is an interesting thing for the conspirarcists - £70k a week is another £3.5m wiped off the liabilities a year, been an awful lot of reduction in that department - boxing up for a sale?

The club have really been let out of jail with this. He would have been a big drain on wages for the next few years with little return I reckon. If we had decent owners this transfer would be a good thing because it would be an opportunity to use the money saved to improve. We have terrible owners though so this is just a big load of who cares.

Good luck to him, at 34 a big pay day, why not!
Does baffle me why these Chinese clubs are buying players like Fonte though, there must be brown paper bags involved or something, 2 year contract as well???? FMOB

About £3m and god knows what in wages for 24 largely ineffective games, at 34 he's been replaced with a bloke even older.
What a load of old shit.
